There is a saying that great advertising is the quickest way to kill a bad company. If your company is pushing a bad product, or bad service, getting the word out about your company can give your company a quick death. If you're going to pour money in to advertising, you better make sure your customer service is up to par.
I'm a T-mobile customer and it seems that over the last year they have really stepped up their customer service a few notches. Whenever I call customer service, I feel like there was a memo that just went out saying that "Kevin Norman will be calling -- he could be frustrated about getting the internet on his phone to work -- please empathize with him and make him feel like a million bucks." The customer service reps are really THAT cheery and and over-the-top nice, in a good way. Because I'm in marketing I can really appreciate a company like T-Mobile that gets it -- they know how important it is to make your customer feel important and then some.
Research show that now, more than ever, customers are fed up with bad service. With web 2.0 spreading news in new ways every day, bad customer service will tarnish the name of a business more quickly than ever. On the other hand, if you're a business with great customer service, you can quickly rise above your competition.
